Trump Meme Coin Gala Returns, VIP Now 90% Cheaper

The Trump meme coin gala is back, and getting into the VIP section just got a whole lot cheaper -- not because the White House turned generous, but because the token backing the whole spectacle has lost most of its value. President Donald Trump is set to host a second in-person luncheon and conference for top TRUMP holders on April 25 at Mar-a-Lago, and the math behind who made the guest list tells a story the press release won't.

VIP Tickets Got Cheaper Because the Token Tanked

Earning VIP status for this year's Trump meme coin gala required roughly $300,000 worth of TRUMP holdings -- down from approximately $3 million at the same tier last May. That 90% drop sounds like a discount. It's not. It's a crash.

The leaderboard for the April 25 event was finalized on Tuesday, with attendees ranked by time-weighted TRUMP holdings between March 12 and April 14, plus bonus points for purchases of Trump-branded merchandise during that window. The top 29 registered holders qualified for VIP status, which comes with a private meet-and-learn session featuring Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, retired boxer Mike Tyson, and Ark Invest founder Cathie Wood.

At least one account that earned VIP status -- a Solana address beginning in 'Ciz7y,' ranked 12th overall -- never held more than 114,212 TRUMP tokens during the snapshot period. That balance peaked at around $473,000 when the token briefly touched $4.14 on March 15, and was worth roughly $318,000 at the time of the cutoff. Another VIP-qualifying address, '2ciorM,' swept in about 102,000 TRUMP tokens on March 12 and made no further moves -- good enough for 17th place.

Justin Sun Is Back on Top -- Worth Far Less

Justin Sun, the Tron founder who publicly criticized the Trump family's World Liberty Financial project earlier this week, returned to his position as the single largest TRUMP holder on this year's leaderboard. His account holds approximately 3.3 million TRUMP tokens -- about 1.4 million more tokens than he had during last year's snapshot. The dollar figure tells a different story: his position is now valued at roughly $9.3 million, compared to around $19 million during the first gala.

Same whale. More tokens. Half the money. That's the TRUMP market in 2026 in a single data point.

The contrast with last year's event is stark across the board. When the first gala's snapshot closed, the token was trading around $13.08. It's now near $2.80 -- a 370% premium wiped out. The final VIP qualifier for last May's dinner, ranked 25th, held close to $3 million worth of TRUMP. This year, a fraction of that amount was enough to clear the threshold.

What Does the TRUMP Token's Price Say About the Gala?

The TRUMP meme coin briefly surged around 40% when this year's Mar-a-Lago event was first announced, then gave back all of those gains. As of April 15, the token sits at roughly $2.80, down 29% over the last 30 days and now 96% below its all-time high of $73.43 -- a peak reached shortly after the coin launched in early 2025.

The event terms add a few wrinkles worth reading. Attendees must pass a background check and may not be residents of a KYC-watchlist country. The April 25 date can be cancelled for any reason. And Trump's attendance -- the thing most people presumably showed up for -- is explicitly not guaranteed. If he can't make it, registered attendees receive a Trump-themed NFT instead.

Last year, Senator Elizabeth Warren called the first dinner an 'orgy of corruption,' and a group of Democratic lawmakers demanded an ethics probe into the pay-to-attend format. The second installment hasn't drawn the same volume of immediate backlash -- possibly because a $300,000 entry feels less outrageous than $3 million, or possibly because the market moved on.

Worth noting: the merchandise bonus -- 10 points for every $1 spent on Trump-branded hats, watches, and other products -- can't be tracked on-chain. That means some VIP spots may have been earned partly through retail purchases rather than pure token accumulation, and there's no public way to verify how much that factor shifted the leaderboard.
